Morten Stig Christensen spent his life dedicated to handball both as a player and a sports administrator. Christensen made his début for the Danish national handball team in 1976 when he was 17-years-old and went on to play in 190 matches, scoring 445 goals. Also in 1976 he was selected as part of the Danish squad for the Montréal Olympics as a reserve player but did not play in any matches. He did eventually represent Denmark at the Olympics when he played in the tournaments at the 1980 Moskva and 1984 Los Angeles Games.
After retiring from the sport Christensen had a very brief career as an actor, appearing in the 1987 Danish film Friends Forever. From there he moved into hosting sports programmes on TV 2 in both Denmark and Norway. In 2007 he was appointed as the secretary general and director of the Danish Handball Association before becoming their chairman in 2021. In December 2024 Christensen was posthumously bestowed with the EHF Honorary Award from the European Handball Federation.
