Biography

Far left forward Gabriele Palme was a German handball player who was on the losing side in the third-place match at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when Germany lost 24-20 to the Unified Team EUN. She won the bronze medal at the 1990 World Championships with the former GDR and, after reunification, won the gold medal at the 1993 Worlds. She won 109 international caps.

Domestically, Palme played with SV Traktor Förderstedt (until 1983), PH Magdeburg (1983-85), and SC Magdeburg before retiring in 1995. Until 1985 she was not allowed to play with SC Magdeburg as she had relatives in West Germany. She later became a schoolteacher, and also turned to coaching and took over the regional female youth team of North Rhine Westfalia.
