Biography

Bryant Johnson was a highly recruited basketball player in high school, being named MVP of the McDonald’s Capital Classic as a senior. He ended up on basketball scholarship at The Ohio State University, but academic difficulties limited his playing time. As a senior he saw more playing time, and persevered in the classroom, graduating with a degree in communications. After college he stayed active in sports by joining the US National handball team, making the 1988 Olympic team after being named an alternate in 1984. Johnson settled near Tampa, Florida where he served as the Neighborhood Relations Executive Manager for Hillsborough County, responsible for the Citizen Action Center and Office of Neighborhood Relations. He also taught a course on the history of the Olympics at the University of Tampa.
