French judoka Franck Chambily won his first medal at the national championships in 1992 with bronze in the -60 kg class. Chambily competed at that weight throughout his career, winning two more bronze medals at the French championships (1995, 2001), in addition to becoming the national champion in 1998. He also had success at international competitions, winning an individual silver at the 1993 Mediterranean Games, along with multiple medals in team competitions at the European Championships. In 1996 Chambily competed at the Atlanta Olympics, defeating Marek Matuszek (SVK), before losing to the eventual silver medallist Girolamo Giovinazzo (ITA). He then lost to Georgios Vazagkasvili (GEO) in the repêchage round to be eliminated from the tournament.
After his competitive career Chambily worked as a coach for the great Teddy Riner, who won five Olympic and 12 World titles. Chambily also coached the French men’s national judo team.
