Biography

Having won the 1945 ABA bantamweight title, Peter Brander went on to win three further ABA titles, all at featherweight, in 1946, 1948 and 1950. He also reached the 1947 final, but had to withdraw following injury. He failed to make the 1949 finals after losing to Charlie Tucker in the London Area final.

Brander appeared in three major international championships. Having lost at the first hurdle at both the 1948 London Olympics, and the 1949 European Championships in Oslo, he beat the Australian Tony Fisher to win the bronze medal at the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland. Brander retired from boxing in October 1954 and, despite many offers, turned down the chance to turn professional in order to pursue his profession as a draughtsman.
