Bernd Juterzenka, a bantamweight boxer, lost his first bout at the 1968 Mexico Olympics against Mick Dowling from Kilkenny, Ireland, by a first round TKO. Dowling knocked Juterzenka down with a crushing right, forcing him to take a compulsory eight-second standing count. Shortly afterwards, he was knocked down again, and that is when the referee stopped the contest. Juterzenka won the East German national title in 1965 and 1967.
