Austrian rower Luggi, son of Renate Sigl, participated at three Summer Olympics from Atlanta 1996 to Athens 2004. He partnered Walter Rantasa in the lightweight double sculls in 1996, and they finished fifth. In 2000 and 2004, he teamed up with the lightweight quadruple sculls and placed ninth and tenth respectively.
At World Championships, Sigl won three gold medals with the lightweight quadruple sculls in 1993-95, and one more with the coxless lightweight fours in 2001. He also won several national titles. From 2015 he was Head of Performance Sports for the Austrian Rowing Federation at their Wien (Vienna) base.
In 2014, he was retroactively banned for one, two, and four years, respectively, for doping. After he was acquitted by the NADA Legal Commission in September 2013, the Independent Arbitration Commission overturned the verdict on appeal. The bans were set to begin on March 1, 2006, meaning that all sanctions had already expired by the time of the ruling.
