With the coxed four crew from Helsinki, Emil Nylund lost to the eventual bronze medalists from Denmark in the quarter-finals of the 1912 Olympic Games. In the following year he was in the boat winning the Nordic championship. Emil was the son of Helena Andersdotter Nylund; the father is unknown.
