Biography

During the 1970s and 1980s Bernard Bruand represented the Cognac Yacht Rowing Club, winning several French championship titles. Bruand made his first of three appearances at the Olympics in 1972, rowing in the eight at the München Games. The French crew finished last in their heat before finishing fourth in the repêchage to be eliminated. Four years later he was part of the coxed fours at the Montréal Games, with France finishing third in the B Final to place ninth overall.

Bruand returned to the eight crew for the 1979 Mediterranean Games in Split where France won silver. One year later he made his third and final appearance at the Olympics, this time in the coxless fours at the Moskva Games. France went on to win the B Final to finish seventh. Bruand continued to row at the national championships, winning back-to-back French titles in the eight in 1983 and 1984. Away from the sport he worked at Hennessy, a renowned producer of cognac.
