Biography

British rowing coxswain David Webb joined the Cygnet club in West London in 1970 where he worked with an inexperienced fours crew. Webb soon helped multiple crews to victory, eventually representing the club at the Henley Royal Regatta in 1972 and 1973. After his spell with the Cygnet club he first moved to the Thames Tradesmen Rowing Club in 1973 before joining the London Rowing Club where he worked with Neil Christie and James MacLeod. The trio were selected to compete in the coxed pairs at the 1976 Montréal Olympics where the British team won the B Final to finish seventh overall.

A year later Webb, Christie, and MacLeod won the coxed pairs title at the 1977 British Rowing Championships in Nottingham. Later that same year the team competed at the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam where they came fourth in the B Final to finish 10th overall. In 1980 he coxed the pair once again at the Olympics where the British crew finished ninth.

Away from rowing Webb had a keen interest in music, playing both the violin and piano in addition to becoming a conductor. He later worked for the English National Ballet as well as the civil service and British Telecom.
