Biography

Rower Ulrich Dießner won a silver and a gold medal at the 1976 Montréal and 1980 Moskva Olympics respectively with the coxed fours. He rowed in the coxed fours with his twin brother Walter, whose son Jörg also became an Olympic rower. The twins also won four World Championship gold medals (1974, 1977-79), and one silver medal in 1975. In 1972, both won their first international merits by winning the coxed pairs at the Youth World Championships. Ullrich then won the 1982 Worlds with another coxed fours crew, and in 1983 with the coxed pairs.

Ullrich Dießner won national titles with the coxed pairs in 1983-84, and the coxed fours in 1975, 1977-79, and 1982. After the boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Dießner retired and became an assistant coach. After re-unification, he founded a cab company. Both twins were trained as tool makers.
