Biography

Rower Klaus Kröppelin won the double sculls gold medal at the 1980 Moskva Olympics partnering fellow East German Joachim Dreifke. He had already earned merits as Youth World Champion in 1976 and Senior World Champion with the quadruple sculls in 1979. He and Dreifke also won the Worlds in 1981 and added a silver in 1982. Kröppelien was an officer in the Navy of the former GDR, and worked as a bus driver after re-unification.
