Biography

Janusz Ślązak graduated from the Warszawa School of Economics. In Los Angeles he was the Polish flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony. Besides winning a silver medal in the coxed pairs, he also won a bronze in the coxed fours. He also competed in 1928 and 1936, but did not make the final either year. Ślązak won a silver medal in coxed pairs at the 1933 European Championships. He was a five-time Polish champion – coxed pairs (1933, 1936), coxless fours (1936), coxed fours (1933), and eights (1927). During World War II he was a lieutenant in the 1939 Polish campaign and survived the war in the officers’ camp II C near Woldenburg. After the war Ślązak worked in fisheries’ management and as a rowing coach.
