Biography

While at Yale, “Babe” Rockefeller earned both a major “Y” for his participation in crew, and a Phi Beta Kappa key for his scholarship. He went into banking almost immediately after graduation and remained in that business for many years, eventually becoming president of the National City Bank in New York as well as serving on the boards of several other businesses. He was the grandson of William Rockefeller, one of the founders of Standard Oil (later Esso, now Exxon). Rockefeller was the gold medalist who lived the longest, until he was surpassed by Sándor Tarics in 2016.
