Biography

Giulio Saraudi was a boxer who won the Italian amateur title six times. Among those he defeated in the finals were Piero Del Papa, the 1961 European Champion, and the 1964 Olympic champion Cosimo Pinto. Saraudi won gold at the 1961 European Championships and a bronze in 1959.

At the 1960 Roma Olympics Saraudi took bronze. He was also initially chosen to represent Italy at the 1964 Olympics, but was found smoking by coach Natalino Rea, who excluded him from the Olympic team, paving the way for Pinto, who then won the gold medal. Saraudi ended his amateur career with a record of 81 wins, 5 losses, and 2 draws.

Saraudi turned professional in 1965 and remained undefeated for his first 12 bouts. He lost his unbeaten run on 24 April 1967, in Nottingham, against Britain’s Johnny Prescott. Saraudi retired in 1968 with a total of 9 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss and 1 no contest. He never fought for an Italian or international title.
