Biography

Ferenc Petrovácz began his shooting career in 1959. Very versatile, he competed with small-bore, free, military, standard, and air rifles. He won a World Cup small rifle bronze medal in 1974. At the European Championships, Petrovácz won a team military rifle silver medal in 1969. He also won three bronze medals; in free rifle team(1965), standard rifle three-position (1969), and air rifle team (1971). Petrovácz also won 46 national titles (16 individual and 30 team), and from 1965-74 was a member of the national team. In 1967, he was voted Sport Shooter of the Year, and the following year competed at the Mexico City Olympics.

After his retirement as a professional soldier in 1974, Petrovácz became the organising officer of the Budapest Honvéd SE, then the head of department. He later became the leader of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Defence.
