Biography

Herman Skjerven was born as Hermund Nilsen, with the family later taking on the name Skjerven. In 1900 he married his wife Ingeborg Fosse, a midwife. They had two children but probably later divorced. In 1906 they moved to the Drammen region. Skjerven was a tenant and worked as a carpenter and house builder. At the 1912 Olympics, he only competed in one military rifle event.
