Professor Zbigniew Fedyczak taught at the Institute of Automation, Electronics and Electrical Engineering of the University of Zielona Góra in west Poland. As a scientist Fedyczak worked on the properties of power electronic systems, contributing to development in current transforming systems and frequency converters. He started his career as an academic teacher in 1992 at the university and wrote more than 150 publications during his career. An expert in his field, he also developed projects at the National Science Centre and the National Centre for Research and Development.
Prior to his academic career Fedyczak was a talented sports shooter, winning multiple medals in his youth at the European Junior Championships. In 1970 he won bronze in the 50 metre free pistol team event at the World Shooting Championships in Phoenix. He followed this by becoming the Polish champion in 1972 and 1975, and winning a team silver at the 1974 European Championships in the air pistol. At the 1972 München Olympics he competed in the 25 metres rapid-fire pistol and the 50 metres free pistol events, finishing 14th and 23rd, respectively.
