Biography

Julio César González lost in the first round of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic boxing tournament, but he went on to much greater things as a professional boxer. He turned pro shortly after Atlanta and won 27 consecutive bouts before losing to Roy Jones, Jr. in an attempt to win the undisputed light-heavyweight title, but Jones prevailed in a unanimous 12-round decision which was not close. In 2003 González won the WBO light-heavyweight title by defeating Dariusz Michalczewski, but he lost the title three months later to Zsolt Erdei. González’s professional career record was 41 wins, 8 losses, with 25 wins by KO. He was killed by a hit-and-run driver while riding his motorcycle in his native Baja California.
