Dutch competitive swimmer Eva Smits represented the Amsterdamse Dames Zwemclub where she specialised in the freestyle. Smits was part of the quartet that swam in the 4 × 100 metres freestyle relay at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. The team reached the final where they initially came third; however, they were later disqualified for a faulty changeover and South Africa were promoted to bronze.
