Biography

J. A. Kirkwood was a member of the Glasgow hockey club, Nondescripts. He went on to become a regular umpire and hockey official. He was a former secretary and president of the Scottish Hockey Association, and became a member of the International Hockey Board. Kirkwood had the honour of being one of the umpires in the historic first ever Olympic match between Scotland and Germany in 1908, which Scotland won 4-0.
