Biography

Tommie Lindström was a Swedish swimmer who represented Stockholmspolisens IF where he specialised in the breaststroke. Lindström won his first medal at the Swedish championships with long course gold in the 200 metres breaststroke. He then won a further three consecutive titles in the event, before winning silver in 1962, as well as silver in the 100 metres breaststroke in 1961 and 1962. He had a similar record in the short course event, winning four consecutive golds in the 200 metres breaststroke from 1959 to 1962, along with gold in the 4 x 100 metres breaststroke in 1961 and 1962.

In 1960 Lindström represented Sweden at the Roma Olympics, swimming in the 200 metres breaststroke. At the Games, however, he was affected by “climate sickness” and was unable to perform at his best. Lindström finished third in his heat, with the 18th best time overall, but only the fastest 16 swimmers advanced to the semi-finals.
