After winning a gold and silver medal at the 1968 Olympics, Jane Barkman retired from competition. However she made a comeback for the 1972 Olympics and was the only member of the 1968 freestyle relay team to win a second gold in that event in 1972. Barkman had won three AAU titles during her competitive days. She later became the women’s swim coach at Princeton.
