Biography

Cornelia “Corky” Gilissen competed in platform diving at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, finishing fifth. She was third at the 1936 Olympic Trials. Gilissen competed for the Women’s Swimming Association. She later worked as an instructor at a swimming school and also did stunt diving with the Water Follies. Gilissen married Harold Schappel but they divorced in 1940. She later married Joseph Desmond in March 1946, but when she died, she was listed as Cornelia Schappel.
