Biography

After winning the AAU 100m freestyle title in 1942, Suzanne Zimmerman won seven outdoor backstroke championships over the next six years, a record bettered only by Carin Cone with eight. Indoors, Zimmerman, who represented the Detroit AC, won one indoor freestyle title and six backstroke championships. As these 16 AAU titles came between the years 1942 and 1948, Miss Zimmerman was certainly deprived of further Olympic honors by the cancellation of the 1944 Games. She attended Willamette University and competed for the Multnomah Athletic Club. Zimmerman married Gordon Edwards and they raised two children.
