Biography

Dick Howell was a prep star at Hyde Park High School near Chicago, and was a member of the Northwestern swim teams that won Big Ten and NCAA championships in 1924-25. Howell was NCAA Champion in both the 440 and 1,650 yard freestyle events in 1924, and won the 220 yard free in 1925. Howeel won four Big 10 titles and at one time held 10 Big 10 freestyle records. Howell also played water polo at Northwestern, and was on the wrestling team.
