Although he was an Olympic gold medalist in an individual event, Don McKenzie surprisingly never won an AAU title. His major domestic victory came in 1969 when he won the NCAA 100y breaststroke for Indiana University. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1989. His death came after a lengthy battle with brain cancer.
