Biography

Walt Ris was a member of the Great Lakes Navy team which set a world record for the 400y freestyle relay during the war. After the war he entered the University of Iowa, winning the AAU outdoor 100m freestyle and the NCAA 100y freestyle titles in both 1947 and 1948. His most successful meet was the AAU indoor championships where he won the 100y freestyle for five straight years from 1945.
