Biography

Janet Cobbs played college volleyball at North Dakota State University. She was a second-team All-American in 1986 and a first-team selection in 1987 and 1988. In 1988 she was named D-2 Player of the Year and won the Honda-Broderick Trophy in 1988/89 as the D-2 Female Athlete of the Year.

Cobbs played on the US national team from 1989-94, winning a bronze medal at the 1992 Olympics. In 1992 she was named the MVP at the Hong Kong Cup. Cobbs played professional volleyball for the Minnesota Monarchs in 1988-89, and then overseas with Ceramica Magica (Italy) in 1993-94 and Vakfibak (Turkey) in 1996-97.

Cobbs later became a volleyball coach. She started as an assistant at her alma mater and then became head coach at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Cobbs was inducted into the North Dakota State University Hall of Fame in 2003.
