Biography

Austrian weightlifter Karl Freiberger won the 1923 World Championships in the middleweight class ahead of his team-mate Leopold Friedrich. Freiberger then participated as a light-heavyweight at the 1924 Paris and the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. He finished an unfortunate fourth, closely behind Friedrich, in 1924 and finished sixth in 1928.

Freiberger’s career started with a national youth title in 1920. In 1922, he won the silver medal at the German Fighting Games at Berlin, and in 1926 won the Austrian national title. He later tried to qualify for the 1936 Berlin Olympics but failed at the national qualifications.
