Price Morris

Weightlifter Price Morris was a member of the Apollo Barbell Club in Ontario and first became Canadian champion in the heavyweight division in 1965. It was 1967 that would be his breakout year, however, when he was again crowned Canadian champion, represented Canada at the Pan-American Games, and broke a sixteen year-old national clean and jerk record with a 406-pound lift, becoming the first Canadian to break the 400-pound barrier. After being crowned Canadian champion twice more (1968 and 1969), he attended the 1970 Commonwealth Games where he tied for second-place with Dave Hancock in the overall heavyweight division. The tiebreaker was personal weight and Price, weighing a few pounds more, ended up with the bronze medal. His next international stop was the 1971 Pan American Games where he again won bronze, this time in the super heavyweight class.

Price was crowned Canadian champion for a fifth and final time in 1972, the same year that he qualified to represent his country at the Munich Olympics in the heavyweight division. He finished 22nd among 26 competitors in the event, the last time that the clean and press was held at the Olympic Games. Price still holds the Canadian record of 382 pounds in the press and, as of 2012, lives in the same farm house in which he was born in Frankford, Ontario.
