Biography

Having won his first British title in 1947, Denis Hallett made his international début against the Netherlands shortly afterwards. He retained his British title the following year, and was selected for the London Olympics, but could finish only 14th. Being overweight, Hallett did not compete at the British Championships in 1949, and thus missed out on a chance of three consecutive titles. Hallett developed his physical strength in his weightlifting days as a South Yorkshire coalminer.
