Biography

A Bradford mill worker, Sid Kemble started competitive weightlifting with the Bradford Apollo club, in the Yorkshire Weightlifiting League in the mid 1930s. Before the outbreak of World War II, he had represented England at international level. A Yorkshire and British featherweight champion, Kemble was later a member of the Windmill Club in Bradford, and in 1948 was selected for the London Olympics where he finished 20th out of 23 starters in the featherweight division.
