Biography

West German bantamweight lifter Bernhard Bachfisch finished sixth at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. This was the best weightlifting result for West Germany at the Games. In 1976, 1978-79 Bachfisch won the Military World Championships as a soldier with the German Bundeswehr. Every year from 1972-83 he was the West German champion in the bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

In 1980, Bachfisch was nominated for the Moskva Games, but could not start due to the US-led boycott of the Western bloc countries, and in 1984 could not start due to an injury. After his active career, he trained as a physiotherapist, and started his own practice.
