Mieczysław Nowak had the following podium finishes at major championships: 3rd in the 1964 Olympics Featherweight class (377.5 kg); 3rd in the 1964 World Championships Featherweight class (377.5 kg); 2nd in the 1965 World Championships Featherweight class (375.0 kg); 2nd in the 1966 World Championships Featherweight class (382.5 kg); 1st in the 1965 European Championships Featherweight class (365.0 kg); 1st in the 1966 European Championships Featherweight class (382.5 kg); 1st in the 1968 European Championships Featherweight class (380.0 kg); 2nd in the 1970 European Championships Bantamweight class (362.5 kg); 3rd in the 1972 European Championships Featherweight class (375.0 kg). He later became a coach and sports administrator.
