Tony Garcy attended Texas Western College, later the University of Texas at El Paso. He was a teacher at the time of the 1964 Olympics. Garcy was AAU Champion as a lightweight in 1960, 1962, and 1963. He won a gold medal at the 1963 Pan American Games as a lightweight.
