Ralph Bishop was a center at the University of Washington. In 1936 their team finished third in the Olympic Trials and was therefore allowed to select one player to join the 14-man Olympic basketball roster. Bishop did not play a lot at the Games but he had great success on the trip to Berlin. He won the U.S. Olympic team’s ping-pong tournament by defeating fellow hoopster Sam Balter in the finals. After the Olympics, Bishop played AAU basketball for several years.
