Risdon Couch

Risdon Couch was born in Lambeth, London. His father died when he was one year old, and he was raised by his mother and step-father, a railway carman. A longtime member of the Passmore Edwards Settlement Gymnastics Society throughout the early 1900s, Couch was one of three representatives, alongside George Saunders and Percy Cockings to participate in the 1908 London Olympics. Competing in the freestyle event in the featherweight class, he lost in his only bout to fellow Briton Alfred Goddard of Birmingham.

He continued to be involved in wrestling through to the 1930s, as a judge and official. Couch worked in various occupations including as a warehouseman and shopkeeper, and later retired to Bucklebury Common, near Reading, Berkshire where he resided until his death in 1960.
