Biography

Burt Sansom was born in Brixton, London and was an active member of the Olympic Amateur Wrestling Club in Walworth in the early 1900s. Selected to participate in the 1908 Olympics, he was eventually defeated in the quarter-final of the bantamweight freestyle event by eventual silver medallist, William Press after defeating Guy Schwan of Brighton YMCA in the first round. Sansom later won the English amateur bantamweight freestyle championship title in 1909 and 1910. He later worked as a clerk in the counting house of a tobacco company.
