Biography

Gerd Bachmann won six East German freestyle wrestling titles, and also four runner-up medals, from 1963-72. Internationally he participated in the 1967 and 1971 World Championships, and the 1967, 1968, 1970 and 1971 Europeans, winning the 1970 bronze medal at the Europeans in the heavyweight class. In Mexico City, at the 1968 Olympics, he finished eighth, and at München in 1972, he lost his first two fights, and was eliminated early.
