Biography

István Dömény began his wrestling career at Testvériség, competing either as a heavyweight or light-heavyweight. In 1921 and 1924, he won the Budapest Championship. From 1922, he competed for BAK. In 1922 and 1925, Dömény finished second at the Hungarian Championships. In 1925 and 1926, he won the national team championship title with BAK.

After the dissolution of the BAK wrestling team, from 1927 onward, Dömény competed for UTE and later, in 1931, with the newly formed wrestling team of BSE. In 1928 he was selected for the preliminary squad for the Olympics, but was not chosen ultimately. At the end of his career, he wrestled and trained in Szekszárd. He was a locksmith by profession.
