Biography

Kurt Rusterholz was active in the amateur wrestling scene of Zürich throughout the 1940s and 1950s, alongside his brother Viktor, who competed in the weight class below him. He won a junior title in 1944 and was the runner-up to the national light-heavyweight title at the national championships held in Lausanne. Despite winning several domestic and national championship titles throughout the 1940s and 1950s, it was not until he was 33 years of age that Rusterholz would be afforded the opportunity to compete at the highest level of international competition, the Olympic Games. Competing in the Greco-Roman light-heavyweight tournament in Roma, he was eliminated in the second round.

Rusterholz also competed at the World Championships on two occasions, with his best result coming in 1953 when he won the bronze medal in the 87.0 kg Greco-Roman tournament. By then in his mid-30s, he last competed at the World Championships almost a decade later in 1962 where he scored a sixth-place standing. He retired from competition in the following years.
