Biography

Nodar Jorjik’ia started to play basketball in 1938 with the Tbilisi University team, but then his career was interrupted by World War II. After the war, he played with SKA Tbilisi from 1944-49 and with Dynamo Tbilisi from 1950-55. Jorjik’ia won Soviet titles in 1944, 1946, 1950, and 1953-54; silver at the Soviet championships in 1945, and bronze in 1952. He helped win the Soviet Cup in 1950-51 and was named as the best player of the Soviet championships in 1954. Jorjik’ia was on the Soviet national team from 1947-53 and won Olympic silver in 1952 and a European title in 1947. Jorjik’ia graduated with a law degree at the Tbilisi State University in 1956 and later worked for many years as a lawyer with the Georgian SSR Council of Ministers.
