Margaret Roney

Hailing from a keen yachting family, Margaret Roney was the daughter of London solicitor, Sir Ernest Knight Roney. Margaret finished seventh in the 8-metre open class aboard her own yacht Feo, at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Her fellow crew members were Tom Riggs, Philip Falle, Thomas Skinner, and her brothers Esmond and Ernest. Feo was only launched in 1927 and a few months later won the 8-metre class at Cowes.

Margaret Roney later jointly owned Sosa with her father, and in 1929 they won the King’s Cup for 8-metre yachts at Cowes. The pair kept on winning races together up to the outbreak of World War II when Sir Ernest was well into his sixties. During the War Margaret was an ambulance driver.
