Biography

Danny Florencio was a miniscule guard who played in college for the University of Santo Tomas, the UST Growling Tigers. After college he joined the Filipino national team, and played in two Olympics with them. He also helped the Philippines to win the 1967 Asian Basketball Confederation tournament.

Florencio started his professional career with the YCO Painters. He starred for the powerhouse Crispa team from 1970-73, after which he was accused of fixing games for money. He was suspended from the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), but was later exonerated and returned to the league. He then played with the U/Tex Wranglers, 7-Up, Toyota Super Corollas, and Galerie Dominique Artistas before retiring in 1983.

Florencio moved to California in the USA after his career ended. He worked in a hospital in San Francisco. He was inducted into the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) Hall of Fame in 2007 and has been named among the 40 greatest players in PBA history.
