Biography

Dave Sweeney was a sailor who raced in the Tornado (multi-hull) class at the 1984, 1988, and 1992 Olympic Games. He competed in 1984 alongside his brother Brian Sweeney. The boys began sailing when the family purchased a summer cottage on Stoney Lake in Ontario and they later raced for the Stoney Lake Yacht Club. Dave Sweeney’s biggest win came when he took the CORK Regatta in Ontario.

Sweeney graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario in 1984 and then obtained a doctor of optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1997. At that school he met fellow student Rachael Catherine Read, and they would marry and move to Atlanta, Georgia, where they opened a joint optometry practice, Vision Source Insight Eyecare, in 2001, which focused on low vision patients, myopia management, and restoring vision through specialty contact lenses.
