Berra’s first title came at the 1929 edition in Lima when he won gold in the decathlon. Two years later at his home championship in Buenos Aires he won gold in the long jump and another in the decathlon, setting a championship record in the latter that stood until 1975. His success continued with gold in the long jump in 1933, followed by silver in the shot put in 1937. Berra represented Argentina at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics where he finished seventh in the long jump.
