Biography

József Kozma started playing basketball in 1943. He won two Hungarian championship titles with the MÁVAG SE team in 1947/48 and in the autumn of 1950.

Between 1948 and 1950 Kozma played 11 times for the Hungarian national team. The 12 Hungarian players who won the Sofia Grand Prix in June 1948 travelled to the London Olympics. At the tournament, the Hungarian team defeated Italy, Canada, and host nation Great Britain, but lost in overtime to Uruguay and group winners Brazil, thus failing to advance to the top eight. The Hungarian leadership did not allow the team to play for the 9th–16th places, so due to the lack of matches, the team was automatically ranked 16th. Kozma played only once, in the 49-31 defeat to Uruguay.
