Edie Robinson had the honour of being the first female track and field athlete to represent Australia at the Olympics. Robinson ran in the 100 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Games where she reached the semi-finals. She also ran in the 800 metres and, although she did not finish, her participation in the event was even more remarkable as she had never competed in the event previously. After the Olympics she became the Australian champion in the 100 yards (1935–36) and the 220 yards (1933, 1935–36). In 2000 Robinson was Australia’s oldest living Olympian and was given the honour of opening the Olympic Village at the Sydney Games. Robinson died less than a week after the 2000 Sydney Olympics ended.
Personal Bests: 100y – 11.0 (1934); 800 – unknown.
