Les McKeand was a talented athlete in two diverse disciplines – triple jump and javelin throw. He competed at the 1948 London Olympics in the triple jump, won a silver medal in the triple jump at the 1950 British Empire Games, and also placed seventh in javelin at those Games.
McKeand attended Sydney University from 1943-48, obtaining a degree in veterinary science in 1949, and then began work as a pioneer veterinarian in the Upper Hunter Valley. Sadly, that lasted for only a few years as he was killed in a car accident near Denman, New South Wales, only a few months after the 1950 British Empire Games.
Personal Best: TJ – 15.35 (1950).
